There must be something in the water at the BBC turning all the meek, mild-mannered female newsreaders into flesh-flaunting floozies! Yesterday we reported how Emily Maitlis had caused temperatures to rise and tempers to flare with her leg-crossing antics, and now not to be outdone, Fiona Bruce has unveiled her inner sexpot.

On Monday night’s Crimewatch update programme, the 43-year-old sported a short dress and high heels combination that had some viewers guilty of some pretty criminal thoughts of their own. This raunchy outfit has provoked further outcry on the BBC Points Of View website: ‘I caught the Crimewatch update last night and found it impossible to concentrate on what was being said while Ms Bruce sat there perched in her short dress.First it was Emily Maitlis and her calf-flashing antics on a trailer for the 10 o’clock news. Now I would not normally complain about this, far from it, but surely there is a time and place. If this is the BBC’s attempt at making things sexier then shame on you. Surely neither the news nor Crimewatch are appropriate programmes for this type of initiative. But hell, what do we expect from dumbdown-Beeb.’

And the complaints came thick and fast, with one irate viewer complaining that: ‘First it was Emily Maitlis, now Fifi La Bruce. What will the BBC do next I wonder? Have Jordan replacing David Dimbleby on Question Time?’ Fifi – ha, I quite like that. Maybe she should officially adopt it as her professional name. Another moaned that: ‘We can all air our differences any time, what we don’t wish to see is them being flaunted on what is supposed to be serious programme.’

On a more appreciative tone, one viewer wrote: ‘Seeing Fifi La Bruce perched seductively on the edge of a desk in her high heels sent me to bed very happy.’ If she can help just one person to a night full of naughty dreams then Fifi’s work is done.
